CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lori Lightfoot says she favors continuing taxpayer-funded Police security for former Mayors Richard Daley and Rahm Emanuel.
Lightfoot told reporters Wednesday she has no qualms about the city government providing police protection to two of her predecessors, Richard M. Daley and Rahm Emanuel.
She said it’s right to keep the former mayors safe in these times, even for more than eight years, in Daley’s case.
She said if it’s determined security is no longer necessary, “We’ll reevaluate it at that time.”
Lightfoot noted Daley’s security detail is relatively “slimmed-down,” compared to hers.
The mayor spoke after a groundbreaking on the Far South Side for a Blue Cross Blue Shield development expected to generate more than 500 jobs and a community center.
