(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A live-streamed party that occurred in violation of COVID-19 social-distancing restrictions drew widespread attention, including scrutiny from the city of Chicago.

Mayor Lightfoot faced several questions Monday about a crowded party that was observed over the weekend on social media. It’s believed to have taken place on the city’s West Side.

She said the event was reckless and dangerous. She conceded her administration won’t be able to stop everyone from flouting the rules.

“I can’t prevent people from being foolish—wish I had that kind of power,” Lightfoot said. “What we can do as a city is educate people about why taking those kinds of risks are unnecessary and foolish.”

The owner of the house where the party occurred was issued a notice of violation for disorderly conduct, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Police recently broke up a wedding party on the North Side, which also violated rules prohibiting large gathering.
