CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago mayoral candidate Lori Lightfoot is condemning an anti-gay flier that was distributed near African-American churches, and so does her opponent, Toni Preckwinkle.

The fliers that surfaced featured a picture of Lightfoot, who is openly gay, and her wife, Amy, and refers to a non-existent "equality act." It's obviously geared to tap into more conservative fears.

Lightfoot on Monday said hate has no home in Chicago, especially in the wake of last week's mass shooting in New Zealand.

"Any attempt by anyone to propagate hate – we have to stand together as a city and denounce it," she said.

Preckwinkle, her opponent in the April 2 runoff election, also decried the fliers.

I condemn in the strongest possible terms any rhetoric or actions from any person or group that suggests prejudice or discrimination against members of the LGBTQ community. There is no place in Chicago, or any society, for intolerance of our LGBTQ community. https://t.co/hz3B6UMC6O
