Lincoln Park Basketball Season And Administrators Suspended Following Misconduct Allegations

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Public Schools removed interim principal John Thuet and assistant principal Michelle Brumfield Friday from Lincoln Park High School following allegations of sexual misconduct regarding the boy's varsity basketball team.

The Sun Times reports that a student had sex while the team was on a trip to Detroit, and that social media is involved and coach Pat Gordon knew about it.

Because of the severity of the misconduct allegations, CPS suspended the remainder of the varsity boy’s basketball season until further notice.

CPS sent a letter home to parents Jan. 31 stating Coach Gordon was suspended, though it's unclear why administrators are also being placed on leave.

"I know this is difficult news for the school community, but please know that we would not have taken these actions if we did not believe they were necessary to promote the safe and supportive educational environment your children deserve," reads part of the letter, signed by Laura LeMone, the district chief who oversees thr network of schools that is part of Lincoln Park. "LPHS will continue to be a strong school community with your support, and your child’s best interests will continue to be the central focus of decisions made at the school level."

Chicago Public Schools appointed Judith Gibbs and Jerrelyn Jones to replace administrators at LPHS.

LeMone says a meeting with parents and families will take place on Monday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. to discuss the leadership change and transition plans.
