CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago election officials are projecting similar turnout for Tuesday's runoff elections for Mayor, City Treasurer and aldermen as the city saw in February's primary.
As there was a slow, but steady stream of voters on the final day of early voting at the Loop Super Site at 175 W.Washington, Chicago Board of Election Commissioners spokesman Jim Allen said the projected voter turnout for the runoffs is about 35 percent.
Allen said there seems to be an age difference when it comes to the voters most likely to cast their ballots at early voting sites, as opposed to mailing in their ballots.
"Early voting is led by very-much older voters, vote by mail is the opposite, it is led by younger voters," he said.
"I live in the 2nd Ward which looks like a lobster and my polling place is mayhem, so I came out here to get it done with. Easy," he said.
It only took Matanky about five minutes to vote, and many of the voters at the Loop Super Site were surprised by how quickly they were able to cast their ballots.
