PINGREE GROVE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- During tough times, it's refreshing to remember that sweet ice cream treats are still here to make us feel good and lick away the stress, especially as summer arrives.
Clint and Brook Carey are behind a local company still at work making these treats, even during a pandemic that has affected every business.
The couple started The Milk House ice cream shop in 2015 after buying Brook Carey's old family farmstead and restored the buildings. After changing his career and focusing on his passion, Clint Carey went to school in Wisconsin to learn the chemistry behind ice cream, where he learned how to make all flavors creamy and balanced.
"We finally decided we should just do what we really love... ice cream," Clint Carey said.
Brook Carey said the company's tag line "Farm fresh" is not just a tag line: it represents the couple's commitment to using fresh ingredients and produce from local farmers to make their products healthy without added sugars.
"What you may notice about our ice cream is that it's not overly sweet," Brook Carey said.
The couple call their business and two locations rewarding, and especially during the pandemic, that's amplified.
