(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man from Cedar Lake, Indiana fired his shotgun in the air near a residential area to scare ducks away from nearby hunters, authorities say.

Indiana conservation officers said they arrested Donald Latulip, 71, on Sunday evening after receiving a complaint he was interfering with a group of duck hunters on Cedar Lake.

Police say a conservation officer saw Latulip in a pontoon boat near the hunters, waving a white towel when ducks flew close by. Investigators say the hunters also gave them video showing Latulip firing a shotgun toward a residential area on the lake.

Police say Latulip left the area in his boat and entered North Point Marina, which he owns.

Conservation officers and Cedar Lake police officers say they went to the marina, where the gate was locked. They also say they heard additional gunfire coming from the marina’s docks.

Officers say they forced the gate open and arrested Latulip.

Prosecutors have charged him with a felony count of criminal recklessness and misdemeanor charges of hunter harassment and hindering a conservation officer.
