(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 20-year-old man lost his left hand when a firecracker exploded before he could throw it.
The incident happened in Kosciusko County in northeastern Indiana, TV station WSBT reported Sunday. The man who was injured was in the passenger seat of a car and was holding the firecracker, authorities said. A woman in the back seat lit the firework, with the idea that the man holding it would throw it at a car behind them.
Instead, the firecracker detonated and blew off the man's hand, burned his chest and damaged the car.
The victim was airlifted to a Fort Wayne, Ind. hospital from the scene.
