CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lightfoot said she's working hard to address the fears and frustrations of people who live or own businesses in the downtown area hit by looting this week.

Mayor Lightfoot and Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said the overnight hours into Tuesday were pretty quiet compared with the chaos and violence of the night before.

And as the rubble of looting and vandalism is being cleaned up, the Mayor said she's spent hours on calls and video conferences with downtown residents and merchants, who are afraid and hearing their raw emotion. She understands, many business people were just recovering after the last time.

"We can't allow their sacrifice, their blood, sweat, and tears, their hard efforts and work ethic and their employees; we can't allow criminals to tarnish their legacy, their businesses, but more importantly their hope," she said.

The Mayor said she's offering concrete solutions to keep downtown and all of Chicago's neighborhoods safe.
