CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A St. Louis woman who tested positive for coronavirus traveled through two different Chicago transit hubs last week.
The 20-year-old woman flew through O’Hare International Airport last Monday from Italy, according to Missouri officials, and stayed with two friends in Chicago before boarding Amtrak train 303 to St. Louis on Wednesday.
KMOV-TV reports St. Louis County Executive Sam Page said the woman tested positive for the virus on Saturday. She was the first coronavirus case in Missouri.
“The young woman and her parents are currently quarantined in her parents’ home in St. Louis County,” St. Louis County Executive Sam Page said Saturday. "The young woman had been studying abroad in Italy."
It is not clear how the woman got to Union Station. Amtrak said it is investigating, has taken the train out of service, and is disinfecting it.
"At Amtrak, safety is our top priority. We have received notification from St. Louis County, Mo. that an individual who traveled on Amtrak train 303 (Chicago – St. Louis) on March 4, 2020, has tested presumptive positive for the coronavirus. We are working in close contact with public health and emergency management teams to have the best available information to be able to share with our customers and employees who might be affected. Amtrak is notifying passengers and employees who may have been on the same train, and as a precaution, we have taken the train out of service for comprehensive cleaning and disinfection, and are also working to do a thorough disinfection of the Chicago and St. Louis stations," the company said in a statement.
