(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Lake County Sheriff’s office says a shoot-out in Beach Park has left a murder suspect dead Tuesday afternoon.
Federal and local authorities were trying to arrest a 24-year-old man who was wanted for a murder in Zion in 2018.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli said as officers arrived to take the man into custody, he was getting out of a vehicle parked in the driveway.
“Preliminary information shows he was armed with a semi-automatic pistol and opened fire on the warrants team,” he said. “Two members of the warrants team returned fire. The man was subsequently shot.”
The murder suspect was pronounced dead later at a hospital, Covelli said.
The two officers who fired their weapons received minor injuries.
The suspect was wanted for a December 2018 murder of an 18-year-old in an apartment parking lot in Zion.
Covelli says the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
