CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Archdiocese of Chicago is getting eight new priests tomorrow when Cardinal Cupich ordains them at Holy Name Cathedral.
Among the jobs of a parish priest: to counsel those in need.
Because of the recent story of a pregnant woman who was killed and her unborn child ripped from her body, we posed the question: What do you say to people who ask, "Where is God?"
"When I heard the news break, it arrested me," Ryan McMillin said, who will be ordained. "I stopped and I said a prayer for the victims."
The 30-year-old priest-to-be said he wants people to know God is working to heal tragedies like this.
"I just hope that we as a church can be part of something that brings hope to people and says that even in spite of this violence, God is working for healing," he said.
28-year-old Marco Franco from Mexico, who will also be ordained, knows the pain the pregnant woman's family is feeling. He lost his brother to a car accident, he said.
"Sometimes you need somebody to be with you and support you, who has the time to be present and to show the mercy of God and the love of God in such a difficult time," Franco said.
