CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The state of Illinois is nearly doubling its tourism marketing budget in hopes of attracting more visitors this year.

The Illinois Office of Tourism not only increased its marketing budget from around 8 million to 15 million dollars, but creative director Jen Bills said the focus is billing Illinois as an “amazing” place to visit for people living in and out of the state.

"We have incredible nature throughout the state that we are going to highlight in one of the spots," Bills said.

She added the other destinations will revolve around the state's history, the 66 and architecture.

The hope is to boost the number of visitors, hotel stays, and the tax dollars they generate.
