Police Lights Night

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two people are dead after a pair of shooting sprees in the south suburbs Thursday night.

Harvey police say the two people died Thursday night after a shooting and car crash in the south suburb.

Police say after shots were fired at 149th Street and Center, a car slammed into a pole near 149th Street and Wood around 11 p.m. Thursday, Harvey Police Chief Eddie Winters said. Two individuals were ejected. One of them died.

Then police chased another vehicle that later crashed into another car and hit a structure. The occupants ran off on foot. Moments later, police found the body of a man who had been shot.

Meanwhile, in nearby Robbins near Grace and McBreen, five men were shot when someone drove up and opened fire at a gathering there. The Cook County Sheriff's Police say a 32-year-old from Sauk Village and a 30-year-old from Harvey were taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A 23-year-old Robbins man was also taken to Christ, while a 29-year-old Harvey man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and a 25-year-old Chicago man was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island, Randall said. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation by the sheriff's office and Robbins police.

A spokesperson for the Cook County Sheriff's Police says the preliminary investigation shows the shootings appear to be unrelated, but the investigations into the shootings continue.
