CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It's a partnership that has being going strong for several years, and it helped feed hundreds of Chicago families and veterans Sunday afternoon.

Tables inside The Montgomery Club were decked with salads, shrimp and bread, while chairs filled with Catholic Charities clients.

"You look around the room and you see the smiles on all the faces of the residents of the Catholic Charities homes," said John Colletti, Managing Partner for the Gibson Restaurant Group. "That's what it's all about."

Monsignor Michael Bolland is President of Catholic Charities, but said the tradition wouldn't be possible without Gibson's help.

"They host and all of the people that are working out here today are all volunteers from the restaurant," Bolland said. "It's really a great day, we're very grateful because for many of them, this is the only time they ever get a chance to get out to something like this."

One of the youngest volunteers was Callie Brooks, who made the trip from Louisville.

"It feels good because you feel like you're giving back," she said. "You're helping them get through a hard time in their lives and giving them a free meal."

Mayoral Candidate Bill Daley also stopped by to dish out fresh food.

"It's a great tradition," he told reporters. "This city has plenty of examples of people that will help other people, people that are in need."

Gloves, hats and scarves were also handed out to those in attendance.
