CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --  The West Side's Farragut and North Lawndale boys basketball teams were disqualified from the Class 3A sectional final after a brawl broke out on the court during the game.

"After speaking to game management and the game officials, the IHSA ruled the contest a double-forfeit and it was never concluded," Craig Anderson, the Illinois High School Association's executive director, said in a statement. "These are never easy decisions to make, but we believe it is the correct one. It is vital that we continue to send the message that incidents like this at high school contests will not be tolerated. They are unacceptable in society, no less a high school sporting event."

IHSA officials told the teams' coaches to not discuss the matter with the press.

The Farragut Admirals were ahead 56-50 with 41 seconds left in the game. According to media reports and a video from NBC, a Farragut player jumped to dunk and was undercut by a North Lawndale player. The player lay injured while the fight broke out around him.

IHSA ruled the game a double forfeit. By doing that, DePaul College Prep advanced to the state semifinals.
