CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Toni Preckwinkle acknowledged there’s been a lot of noise in this year’s mayoral campaign, and there’s been a lot of candidates’ distancing themselves from Alderman Ed Burke, who is facing federal charges on attempted extortion.
But Preckwinkle said despite their 19-year working relationship, she’s never been a “friend or ally” of Burke.
“There are other people who got married in his house…who he endorsed. I fall into neither of those categories.”
What voters are more concerned about, she added, is what is going on in their communities. Not political “noise.”
Susana Mendoza was married in a civil ceremony in Burke’s home. Burke has endorsed candidate Gery Chico. Both have pointed out the Burke gave Preckwinkle’s son a job.
