CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- When was the last time you saw a bald eagle in Chicago? Never, right?

David Lukauskas saw one Wednesday from his South Loop office at West 18th Street and posted it on his Facebook page for all to see.

"Today a bald eagle flew in to check out the South Loop but our local seagulls escorted him out promptly," he wrote.

He told the Chicago Sun-Times that he saw something out of the corner of his eye, and he knew "something was not right." So he grabbed his camera and started snapping. The eagle was surrounded by nearly a dozen gulls.

Lukauskas, owner of Crowd Control Direct, said his video has been viewed more than 10,000 times.

Carl Giometti, president of the Chicago Ornithological Society, told the Sun-Times that bald eagle sightings in Chicago are not as rare as one might think. They come in the winter to look for fish and ducks.

He said he wasn't sure why the gulls chased the eagle. They could have been defending their territory so that they wouldn't lose out on food, or they could have been following the eagle to pick up the leftovers.

Whatever the reason: Seeing the magnificent bird in the urban jungle is very cool.
