(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Opponents of a massive logistics project planned for Joliet say they’ll continue the fight against it despite the city council’s approval of it last week.
Opponents of the Northpoint project say they’re going to court to try to derail the project. They argue the meeting in which the project was approved, by a 6-3 vote, violated the Open Meetings Act.
Northpoint wants to build a development with lots of warehouses on the South Side of Joliet. That would generate a lot of truck traffic in that area.
Opponents say the Joliet City Council meeting was illegal because it was held online and cable TV when not all Joliet residents have the Internet or cable TV.
"The repercussions of this project would be huge,” Stephanie Irvine of Just Say No to Northpoint said. “But more than that, the repercussions of simply casting aside our democratic process sets a dangerous precedent."
Roberto Clack of Warehouse Workers for Justice says the project will have "generational consequences.” He questions why the council felt it more important to vote on the Northpoint project Friday night instead dealing with the deaths of 22 residents of a Symphony nursing home.
