CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two adults face a variety of charges in connection with the shooting of a baby boy in the Uptown neighborhood earlier this week.

Police on Monday night responded to reports that an infant had been struck by stray gunfire near Leland and Clarendon but quickly signaled the circumstances of the shooting were suspicious. The parents were taken in for questioning.

Authorities say the 1-year-old child was hurt during a domestic disturbance in a residence in the 800 block of West Eastwood. Police have said the parents were struggling over control of a firearm.

On Wednesday night, Chicago police announced charges. Travis McCoy, 26, is charged with one felony count of making a false report to 9-1-1 and one misdemeanor count of child endangerment.

Adriana Smith, 28, was charged with one felony count of obstruction of justice and also a count of child endangerment.

Both are expected in bond court Thursday.

No additional information was available. Earlier this week, the child was in serious condition but stable. He was transferred from Weiss Memorial Hospital to Lurie Children's Hospital.
