CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A group of people will take the stage in Millennium Park for what could be a life-changing experience.
The performers are homeless or have experienced homelessness and will perform tonight at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park as part of the summer-long Grant Park Music Festival.
They are part of Harmony, Hope, and Healing, a music therapy organization that uses music to help people through the trauma of homelessness, violence, prison, and addiction.
The performance is about a homeless woman who looks for shelter, finds one, but is told she can only use the bed until 6 a.m.
Many people experiencing homelessness say they feel invisible, but this weekend the group will be performing in one of the most visible spaces in Chicago.
But while that may seem daunting for the performers, Harmony, Hope, and Healing Community Engagement Director Sophie Wingland said the are too busy focusing on the performance to experience stage fright.
"Honestly, we've talked about what we want to convey with the piece to the audience," Wingland said. "I think people are more focused on what they're singing than the nervousness of being on stage and performing."
The performance is at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.
