CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police shot two suspects after an automobile struck and dragged a Chicago police officer a short distance Friday in the Englewood neighborhood, officials said.
The incident occurred near 70th and Green around 5 p.m. An officer with the Major Auto Task Force spotted a stolen vehicle and flagged down two 7th District officers for assistance, Chief of Patrol Fred Waller told reporters.
When the two men inside the stolen vehicle tried to evade police, they hit and dragged the first officer toward 71st Street, police told reporters.
At that point, at least one of the other officers opened fire and wounded the two men inside the vehicle, police said.
The dragged officer and the two suspects are expected to recover from their injuries.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability was investigating the officer-involved shooting.
