CHICAGO ( WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Tickets for a raffle by the Portage Fraternal Order of Police have sold out after controversy about the prize: an assault rifle.
Lodge 145 wrote on social media that their first batch of raffle tickets have sold out and thanked supporters.
Tickets are $5 and the top prize is an AR-15, which drew criticism from state Senator Karen Tallian.
She tells CBS 2 she can't believe the FOP is really giving one away.
She and Portage resident Sandy Segally object to the kind of weapon being raffled. It's the same kind that wounded six Philadelphia police officers recently.
The lodge's executive board writes that while they sympathize with the victims harmed by these events, they believe the blame belongs with the person -- not the weapon.
Several of the people who commented on the lodges' Facebook post say they're interested in buying future tickets and learned of the raffle from the media.
