CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While people are encouraged to get outside and get some exercise with so much time being spent at home, there are precautions everyone is being urged to take, including runners.
The Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) put together what it calls "Commit To Running Safety Guidelines."
"A lot of us are out running right now and that is great for our mental health, but we also need to focus on the physical health of ourselves and the Chicago community, so if you are choosing to run right now, you need to commit to running safely - that means running by yourself. This is not the time to run in groups or even with a partner. You also need to commit to running in places that are not congested and where you can have safe, social distancing. Right now is also the time to take the extra step to wear a mask or face covering when you run," said Greg Hipp, CARA Executive Director.
Hipp demonstrated using his face covering in the Facebook video.
Runners are not just protecting themselves, but potentially others, since we don't know who is an asymptomatic carrier.
