CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some hair salons are anticipating being allowed to reopen at the end of the month and are taking tentative appointments for May 29 and into June.
Whenever they reopen, things won’t look the same, WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller reports.
Tim Toth, the owner of Lather, thinks he’ll be cutting hair soon in his North Center salon and picking up where he left off two months ago.
“Except the front door will be locked. You won’t see as many stylists or clients in there. You won’t see any magazines or coffee or water,” he adds.
The locked door he refers to will be opened only for clients who have appointments. People who arrive early may have to wait in their car.
Inside, stylists will wear smocks and change them between clients, he said. And of course, masks all around.
“No shirt, no shoes, no mask, no service,” Toth said.
There will be one big change for some clients. There won’t be so much blow drying, because any blow-drying could potentially spread the novel coronavirus around.
“I don’t want people leaving with dripping hair, so we will do what we call a ‘rough dry,’” he said.
“But I’m not going to take time on a girl who wants her hair nice and smooth and a big ordeal, until we figure out what’s going on with this COVID-19.”
