SCHAUMBURG (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A parking lot of a suburban baseball stadium will be busy Thursday, but not because of a baseball game.
The Village of Schaumburg will hold Thursday its second day of a three-day mask giveaway, distributing 70,000 masks to residents.
The giveaway is taking place in the parking lot of Boomers Stadium, home of the minor league Schaumburg Boomers baseball team, located at 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd.
Wednesday's giveaway was for seniors only. Thursday is for Schaumburg residents whose last names begin with A-L. People will last names that begin with M-Z can pick up masks on Friday.
Village Communications Director Allison Albrecht said volunteers served 1,400 cars on Wednesday.
She said people are happy for the service.
"It's really nice to see people coming out. We've had people stop us in the lines just to roll down the window to say 'we just want to thank you for holding the event.' I think that's been really nice," Albrecht said.
She added that the volunteers are happy to help.
"It's our employees coming out, banding together to host this event and be able to help our citizens. I know the citizens are really grateful for that so that's really been nice to see that level of support even here at the event," Albrecht said.
The giveaway is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The masks are disposable, and the giveaway is limited to five per person.
