CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Merchandise Mart is one of Chicago's iconic buildings. But if you look at some of its limestone facade, you might wonder: What are all those holes?

You might say they are like pockmarks on an otherwise beautiful face, on the east side of the Mart.
They are chunks taken out of the facade.
We asked a spokesperson for the Mart what they were.
"Based on the evidence presented, the Department of Buildings believes that the façade is structurally sound and we are satisfied with the ongoing work,” a statement said.
