CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A little cold snap won’t postpone the annual Norge Ski Jump competition in Fox River Grove this weekend.
Three weeks ago, the weather would have been so warm and snow so lacking that it would have been perfect for a golf tournament, long-time announcer Charlie Sedivec said.
Now, the ski runs are groomed to perfection.
In 110 years, the Norge Ski Jump has never been postponed. If you want cold, he refers you to the mid-1980s, when the air temperature was 30 below and cans of beer froze solid within 30 seconds of being opened.
Junior competition begins at noon Saturday, with competitors as young as five and several 10- and 11-year-old skiers going off the 70-meter tower.
The main competition at 12 noon Sunday includes a U.S. team led by Olympian Mike Glasder, of nearby Cary, with the chief competition being teams from Slovenia, Finland and Norway.
Dress warmly.
