Woman Found With Gunshot Wounds To The Face In West Garfield Park

 Crime Police Tape

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A woman died after a shooting Saturday in West Garfield Park.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert a few minutes after midnight in the 4400 block of West Congress Parkway, Chicago police said.

They found 25-year-old Benita Garrett in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle with gunshot wounds to the face, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. She was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Garrett died Wednesday, the medical examiners office said. An autopsy conducted Friday confirmed she died from her gunshot wounds.

The medical examiner's office ruled her death a homicide.

No arrests have been reported. Area North detectives are investigating.
