(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An Oak Park teenager planned to drop off 1,500 face shields Monday for distribution to area hospitals.
He’s doing it with the help of some Facebook friends, WBBM Newsradio’s Jennifer Keiper reports.
Levi Raskin, a senior at Illinois Math and Science Academy, said as COVID-19 precautions kicked in, Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago reached out to the 3-D printing community.
Raskin answered the call, but he only has two 3-D printers. So, he put the call out on Facebook and recruited more than 200 others.
The Chicago group so far has produced nearly 2,000 face shields for healthcare workers.
They’ve also created an Amazon wish-list because necessary supplies such as plastic and elastic is getting harder to find these days, Raskin said.
