CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A safety group hopes an online quiz will reduce the number of truck-bike crashes in Illinois.
WBBM's Jim Gudas reports.
Ed Barsotti of Ride Illinois says since 2016, at least five bike riders have been killed in Chicago in crashes with trucks because of one particular problem: blind spots.
“Blind spots are huge. Cyclists tend to ride into a blind spot in situations at intersections, and we’re trying to avoid that,” he said.
So, Ride Illinois has added a trucker safety module to its online quizzes, reviewed and approved by the Illinois Secretary of State, designed to help all drivers and bike riders learn ways to share the roads safely.
