CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Veterans and current members of the military with disabilities or injuries have gathered in Chicago this week for an Olympic-style competition.
The Valor Games Midwest give active duty military members and veterans with disabilities or injuries a chance to compete in cycling, indoor rowing, archery, powerlifting and field events including discus and shotput.
Wesley Perkins of Oswego fought in Iraq and suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Perkins said the athletic competition is only part of what makes the Valor Games special.
Delapaz said the competition gives veterans with disabilities or permanent injuries a chance to prove to themselves and to the world that they "can do anything."
Wednesday's events took place at Soldier Field. The Valor Games wrap up Thursday with competitions at Armour Square Park and outside Guaranteed Rate Field.
