CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The call went out on social media Monday for volunteers to meet in Rogers Park on Tuesday morning to help clean up tree damage from Monday's tornado and dozens of people showed up.Jahmal Cole, founder of My Block, My Hood, My City, said he heard from people in Rogers Park on Monday afternoon that there was a need for help in getting their neighborhood cleaned up, and so Cole posted on Facebook a call for people to meet him at 9 a.m. at the Jarvis Red Line station.
"We ain't trying to step on nobody's toes in Rogers Park today. All we're trying to do is help out, so we're going to work with government officials. We're going to work with whoever's here," he said.Rogers Park resident Moira Tuffy was glad to take part.
"That's what we need. It's grass roots. It's, you know, coming together to help each other," she said.
