CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor Pritzker said with the Illinois' health metrics remaining stable for the past several days, restrictions will likely be eased across Illinois on May 29.
IDPH Director Ngozi Ezike announced Tuesday the number of hospitalizations related to COVID-19 across Illinois dropped to the lowest level in more than a month — an encouraging sign that should not encourage anyone to do a victory lap.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reports the number of hospitalizations from patients infected with coronavirus was 4,002 on Monday.
That represents a decline of more than 1,000 hospitalizations from a high mark of 5,036 on April 29, and still lower than the nearly 4,100 hospitalizations reported on April 12 when IDPH began compiling the statistic.
IDPH Director Ngozi Ezike conceded it’s a great sign, but stressed residents tired of the state’s stay-at-home order should not relax their guard. She said the statistic is potentially volatile, depending on how well Illinoisans do in preserving social-distancing techniques, even as restrictions are eased.
“All of those things are effective, and that's why we've got numbers that are improving," Ezike said Tuesday during the Pritzker Administration’s latest coronavirus briefing.
