CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- If you're ever in Ravenswood, you might notice the bright orange boxes near the Metra UP North tracks. Signs on them say, "Warning. Do Not Touch."
WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller checked it out.
The four boxes contain seismographs that measure vibrations caused by work in replacing 11 railroad bridges between Grace and Balmoral.
One of the devices is at Ravenswood and Sunnyside, across the street from Spacca Napoli restaurant, owned by Jonathan Goldsmith.
"We do feel some vibration from it, but on top of having the bridge work, the city has almost overnight changed our permit parking. So, that's created a hardship as well,” he said.
Collin Quinn works for the Judlau company - the general contractor - and Quinn is the project manager for the Metra work, replacing 11 bridges.
"We've got to get our work done but we want to try to keep disturbances and public issues to a minimum, of course."
And he says that's why they have the seismographs.
