You Can Win One Of 'The Lost Corvettes' On Display At The Chicago Auto Show

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- You have the chance to win some classic cars that are on display at the Chicago Auto Show.

Corvette Heroes has been restoring 36 classic Chevrolet Corvettes, from the 50s and 60s, that were rusting away in garages in New York. They are called “The Lost Corvettes.”

An artist bought the corvettes from the winner of a 1980's VH1 contest.  He originally wanted to turn the cars into an art project, but it didn't get off the ground, and the Corvettes changed hands once again.

The owners of the garages, where the cars were being stored, bought the entire collection. The Spindler and Heller families, along with Chris Mazzilli formed Corvette Heroes.

The collection includes six that are being  featured at the Chicago Auto Show. Those are from 1955, 1956, 1957, 1966, 1967 and 1969.

They are valued from $60,000 up to $500,000, but it was a long road to getting them showroom ready. Mazzilli said the cars were in various states of repair, with some requiring a lot of work and others not so much.

“We started work on these cars a few years ago, so the newest one’s the ’89 and it only had about 7,000 miles. It only needed about 40 hours of work,” Mazzilli told CBS 2. “The ’53, first-year Corvette, that car needed 4,000 hours in it.”

Once the restorations are complete, the cars will be raffled off this summer. Proceeds will benefit the National Guard Educational Foundation.

Raffle tickets are $3 each and can be purchased online at corvetteheroes.com.

The sweepstakes will end in the late spring with the last car being raffled off in late summer.
