CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- "Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one." - Doc Brown
Guests of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) can make their future a good one by visiting the museum's store and seeing a pair of Back to the Future Nike sneakers.
The MCA and Heritage Auctions announced Friday a new collaboration, the Urban Art Pop-Up Truck Show, celebrating the growing importance of urban and street art and objects in culture today.
"The museum and Heritage Auctions decided to get together and create a trunk show of street culture art," said Helen Yi, the MCA Director of Retail Experience. "It's our moment to highlight the significance of street art in today's culture. It's really kind of come to a height. It's pretty exciting.
"We're thrilled to collaborate with Heritage Auctions and showcase its fabulous streetwear and Urban Art collection in the MCA Store. The Urban Art Pop-up Shop is a natural way to bring our trendsetting audiences together for a unique blend of art, culture, and retail."
Among the 100 different object on display is a rare pair of Back to the Future Nike Air Mag sneakers, valued between $30,000 and $50,000.
"They are doing quite well and we are very, very excited," Yi said.
The Urban Art Pop-up Trunk Show, open from April 5-11, is located inside the second floor of the MCA Store. Entry to the store is free and guests can enter right off the street at the corner of Chicago and Mies Van Der Rohe. The MCA Store is open Friday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Wednesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Museum of Contemporary Art is closed on Mondays.
"So come and definitely come and take a look at the shoes, because they are definitely worth seeing," Yi said.
"This is a very exciting time for the museum because we are really showcasing fashion, as well as street culture...it's really in line with that is happening today. There is a lot of collaborations. We have everything from artists to street designers, to clothing designers and gym shoes, and it is all converging in this one place. It is really representative of what is happening in our society today."
