NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang is quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19.
"After testing negative as recently as this weekend, today I took a COVID rapid test and received a positive result," Yang said in a statement released by his campaign Tuesday. "I am experiencing mild symptoms, but am otherwise feeling well and in good spirits."
The former presidential candidate said contact tracing is underway.
"Our team has begun the contact tracing process to notify anyone who may have been in close contact with me," Yang said. "Our safety protocols require staffers who participate in in-person campaign activities get tested on a weekly basis."
Yang will continue to attend as many virtual events as possible.
"When the time is right, I look forward to once again hitting the campaign trail and advancing a positive vision for our city's future," Yang said.
The news comes two weeks after one of his campaign staffers tested positive for the virus, prompting Yang to temporarily hold all events remotely.
Yang's campaign requires staffers who participate in in-person events to get tested on a weekly basis.
The entrepreneur officially launched his mayoral run last month.
