The mayor of Hoffman Estates wants to see more civility during village board meetings.
It was during public comment at a meeting this week where several people spoke about immigration enforcement.
They accuse the village and the police department of being complicit with ICE.
One identified herself as Chloe Reese.
“Demand ICE stop operating on village property and put up signage to keep them out,” she said. “And ensure clarity about ICE operations in this town.”
She added, “do (expletive) better, do (expletive” anything.”
Another speaker, Beenish Tanvir, refused to stick to her 3-minutes and was removed.
“You all are gas-lighting your constituents by pretending you all are a bunch of dumbasses who don’t know what’s happening in this country,” she said.
Another man, speaking in support of Israel, was heckled.
Mayor Bill McLeod later addressed the issue of civility during meetings.
“I think we have to crack down on this profanity and interrupting people,” he told the Daily Herald.“This is bush league stuff. If you want to make an argument, make an argument. Don’t act like a 2-year-old kid.”
