Illinois adds 2,905 cases and 21 deaths to COVID-19 total

SPRINGFIELD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health on Saturday reported 2,905 additional cases of COVID-19 and 21 new deaths, bringing the state's total reported cases to 316,423 and its death toll to 8,975.

On Thursday, Illinois reported 3,059 coronavirus cases, which is the biggest daily tally in five months, not counting one day last month when officials were catching up with a backlog of tests.


Thursday's high number comes as the state processed more than 72,000 tests, almost a record, officials said. More than 66,000 tests have been processed for Saturday.

Of the deceased, a woman and two men in their 40s, a man in his 70s, two women and a man in their 80s, and a woman and a man in their 90s, all from Cook County; a man in his 70s from Christian County; a woman in her 70s from DuPage County; two men in their 70s from Fayette County; a woman in her 70s from Jefferson County; a woman in her 80s from Jersey County; a man in his 60s from Kane county; a man in his 80s from Knox County; a woman in her 50s and two women in their 90s from Lake County; a man in his 80s from LaSalle County; a woman in her 80s from Marion County; a man in his 80s from Monroe County; a man in his 90s from Richland County; a woman in her 90s from Rock Island County; a woman in her 80s from Tazewell County; a man in his 70s from Union County; a woman and man in their 90s from Will County; and a woman in her 70s and a man in his 90s from Winnebago County.State health officials are reporting a total of 316,423 cases in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Oct. 3 through Oct. 9 is 4.0%.  Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 66,256 specimens for a total of 6,243,635.  As of last night, 1,807 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 406 patients were in the intensive care unit and 166 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
