
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Hours after a World Health Organization official estimated that 10% of the world's population, or roughly 760 million people, may have been infected with the novel coronavirus, Illinois' total caseload increased on Monday by another 1,853, including 14 deaths.
On Saturday, the number of confirmed cases in the state surpassed the 300,000 and the state now has mark, with the Illinois Department of Public Health currently reporting a total of 303,394 cases, including 8,805 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.
Of the deceased reported Monday, two men in their 60s, a man in his 70s and a man in his 80s, all from Cook County; a woman in her 90s from Champaign County; a man in his 80s from Christian County; a woman in her 80s from DuPage County; a man in his 90s from Fayette County; a man in his 50s from Knox County; a man in his 80s from Monroe County; a man in his 50s from Wayne County; a woman in her 70s from Williamson County; and a a man in his 70s and a woman over 100 from Winnebago County.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Sept. 28 – Oct. 4 is 3.4%. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 38,538 specimens for a total of 5,924,956.
As of last night, 1,631 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 382 patients were in the intensive care unit and 155 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
