An officer saw the teenager acting suspiciously at about 7:30 p.m., then conducted a pat-down and discovered the boy had a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Naperville Police say the teen was taken into custody, and on Monday was ordered released to home detention with electronic monitoring.
The 14-year-old's next court appearance is on June 27th.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin called the incident "extremely disturbing".
