(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago activist is joining Case Files Chicago in attempting to renew interest in solving a 1981 double homicide in Calumet City.
Toni Caposey was 22 and her boyfriend Jacob Bird was 34 when they were found shot to death in bed after she failed to show up for work at her father's insurance business.
Police suspected Bird was the target.
Lisette Guillen, with Case Files, joined Andrew Holmes to discuss the unsolved crime.
"From what we understand Jacob Bird may have been involved in some shady dealings that Toni was not aware of, and she may have been caught up in something," Guillen said.
"She can't rest in peace," Holmes said. "The only thing she's doing now is resting because there is no peace."
They want to see the FBI get involved.
There has long been a $25,000 reward.
If the killer or killers were Jacob Bird's age when the crime occurred, they'd be in their mid-seventies today.
Calumet City police say they stand ready to investigate new leads.
