Two individuals, including a 16-year-old boy, have been charged with shooting a man visiting from New York while they tried to rob his rental car.
Marques Williams, 22, and the teen face a slew of felony charges, including first-degree attempted murder, armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated vehicular hijacking, Chicago police said.
Williams faces an additional felony charge of possessing a weapon while being a felon, and the teen was charged with fleeing and causing more than $300 in property damage, officials said.
Williams was scheduled to appear in court Monday. Court information was not immediately available for the teen, who was charged as a juvenile.
The attack happened about 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of East Illinois Street as a man, 64, and his wife, 58, of Plattsburgh, were retrieving something from their rental car in a lower level of a garage, according to a police report obtained by the Sun-Times.
Witnesses told police two masked robbers confronted the couple, and one demanded the man give him his keys while brandishing a black gun in their direction, according to the report.
When the man refused, the gunman reportedly said, “Give me your keys, or I’m going to shoot you,” before he opened fire, hitting the man in the left side of his rib cage, according to the report.
Police and paramedics responding to the scene slowed the man’s bleeding after he was found lying on the ground. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the report.
