(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Two men have been charged following a shooting last Friday afternoon outside Yorktown Mall in Lombard, an incident that left a woman injured.
Authorities say a group of three people – two men and a women – were targeted by a pair of men around 3 p.m.
One of the suspects asked the victims, “You good?”, and the trio continued to their vehicle near JC Penney. The two suspects got in a different vehicle and drove toward the other men and woman. One of the suspects leaned out of the passenger side window and fired a gun several times, striking the female in the arm.
The suspects fled, and a heavy police presence responded to the Lombard shopping center.
On Tuesday, DuPage County prosecutors said two men had been arrested:
--Alleged shooter Ronald Grundy, 22, of Louisville, Kentucky, who faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm at a person or vehicle and aggravated battery with a firearm. A judge ordered him held without bond Tuesday morning.
--Jakobi Kinsey 24, of Chicago, who faces similar charges. His bond was set at $1 million.
The injured woman was treated at a local hospital, where she underwent surgery to remove the bullet, authorities said.
“The allegations that these two defendants opened fire in the middle of the afternoon in the parking lot of a popular mall demonstrates a complete and utter disregard for public safety and the rule of law,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “Make no mistake, anyone who commits this type of violent crime in DuPage County will be apprehended, charged, aggressively prosecuted and, if found guilty, face a significant amount of time behind bars.”
