CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A senior from Chicago’s West Side was one of many who got her COVID-19 shot Thursday during a home visit, and her family members are encouraging others to do the same.
Two firefighter-paramedics on a COVID-19 vaccination detail paid a visit to the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes, 99, near the United Center, with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
"Alright Mrs. Holmes, here you go, okay? Here you go, a little poke...that's all," said one of the firefighter-paramedics.
"You got your vaccine, you're vaccinated now," said the other.
Her nephew, Andrew Holmes, the community activist, invited WBBM Newsradio witness the inoculation, and encouraged her to encourage others to get vaccinated.
He said to her: "You are 99-years old."
"I know I am blessed," Mrs. Holmes said.
"Spread your blessings by telling all seniors to get their shots," Andrew Holmes said.
Mrs. Holmes will be 100 in December.
"All seniors should get their shots," she said.
Andrew Holmes sent a message to the public: "If you have a grandmother, if you have a mother, especially if they are 99- or 100-years old help them, talk to them."
In terms of his aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Holmes, he said, "We want her safe and we want to protect her, and this is things that she wanted to do, you know, so she could stay safe and live longer."
Kenneth Holmes, Mrs. Holmes' son, said it was a relief that she received the vaccine.
About two dozen fire department crews are on the mobile vaccination detail, giving vaccinations to seniors.
