A man came under gunfire early Thursday morning as he rushed to the scene of a crash in the South Loop.

A red Dodge Challenger was seen speeding at about 03:30 a.m. shortly before it crashed into a semi-truck on South Des Plaines at Taylor, according to a preliminary report from Chicago Police. A nearby good Samaritan, upon hearing the crash, ran over, but was shot at by the driver of the red Challenger.

Police said that both driver and passenger of the Challenger were taken to Northwestern Hospital in fair condition, and that two guns were recovered from the car.

The semi-truck driver involved in the crash and the Good Samaritan were both uninjured.
