(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A pitbull mix puppy is showing signs of recovery several days after a local shelter took in the abused and abandoned animal.
The dog, named Cody, was found tied to a pole outside a Rogers Park 7-Eleven. The animal had cigarette burns and showed signs of being starved, according to Famous Fido Rescue Adoption in Irving Park.
“He’s doing pretty good,” Gloria Lissner, the animal shelter’s founder and executive director, told WBBM Newsradio on Monday. “He was totally no muscle mass, he was very thin.”
The dog has gained about a pound. Famous Fido hopes to get financial help from the public to help pay for Cody’s medical care and rehabilitation (a fundraiser link can be found at the shelter’s website).

Lissner said she expects Cody will eventually be ready to go to a loving home but says his future owner should expect to provide physical and emotional care to the dog.
Famous Fido has many other animals that also are looking for a new home.
