CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago City Council members and others are still assessing this past weekend’s NASCAR street races in the city before they welcome similar events next year.

36th Ward Alderman Gilbert Villegas said he watched television coverage of NASCAR’s Street Race Chicago, and saw some very positive things.

He said his biggest concerns were about a lack of transparency when the Lightfoot Administration crafted the three-year deal with NASCAR.

"Any opportunity to showcase the city in a positive light- we should be taking a look at that, but I think it's incumbent upon the executive branch to be a lot more transparent, not just with the legislative branch, but we're really off Chicagoans," he explained.

"We don't know what's in the deal."

Mayor Brandon Johnson said he indeed wants such a public examination before decisions are made about the deal going forward.
