CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A second CTA bus route is going electric. The transit agency is making the move on the number 63 route this week.

The ride from 63rd and Stony Island to Midway follows the number 66 bus route in going electric. The CTA said it trained drivers based out of the 74th street garage on the new buses. President Dorval Carter said the expansion is a priority of his - in providing service for the areas of the city that depend the most on transit.

The number 63 is a busier route with more than 2.4 million rides last year. The goal is to have the entire fleet of more than 1,800 buses converted to all electric by the year 2040.
